The grey line is the line of best fit. Because the moons obey Kepler's third law, their plotted points fall on a straight line with gradient .
Upon discovering this relationship (for the planets of the solar system), Kepler wrote "I first believed I was dreaming… But it is absolutely certain and exact…"
